Pre-cut silage tests analyse the grass sample for sugars & nitrates. Grass silage analysis reveals practical feeding information – dry matter, pH, ammonia, protein, ME and DMD.
𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗰𝘂𝘁 – analyses the grass sample for sugars & nitrates. Sugar content of grass is vital for the process of ensiling. The higher the sugar levels at grass, the better the preservation. Sugar levels before cutting should be 3% or higher.
𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 – this test is for a broad spectrum of minerals as well as determining nutrition value of the silage. Results of this test include dry matter, pH, ammonia, protein, ME and DMD.
By conducting this analysis, an accurate test will allow farmers to supplement animals with the appropriate rate of concentrates to meet animal dietary requirements and performance targets. Feeding of concentrations can be costly and therefore the level of meal being fed to livestock should be determined by the quality of silage being fed.
As grass silage is by far the most popular feed source during the winter months, it is important that farmers know the nutritional value of the silage they are feeding to ensure livestock keep up high levels of production and therefore profitability during this period.
